UFC 115 Sells Out in 30 Minutes
Update: Apparently, this was the fastest sell-out in UFC history.
Dana White announced via his Twitter account that UFC 115 in Vancouver sold out in 30 minutes yesterday morning. There are a few interesting things about this.
First, this was just open to UFC Fight Club presales. Tickets don’t go on sale to the general public until Thursday. While there will probably be a handful of tickets left, this show sold out extraordinarily fast for what isn’t the most impressive of fight cards. Headlining the fight was supposed to be Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz to cap off the 11th season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Second, I suspect that most of the tickets were not bought by Canadians. Vancouver is a very short drive (a couple hours) from Seattle, who has yet to see a UFC event hosted there. Those of us in Seattle are starved for UFC action, and I know a lot of us will make the trip (I got two tickets myself). Dana has said we’d be getting an event here soon, and hopefully this sends a message that we want one this year.
Finally, this should show the Vancouver mayor and city council that the UFC is incredibly serious about running shows there, and with any luck, they’ll stop putting ridiculous road blocks in the way.
So make that two UFC shows in a row that I’ll be attending. I’ll make the trip to UFC 114 and the UFC Fan Expo in May, and then three weeks later heading north for UFC 115. It’s going to be a crazy few weeks, but it should be loads of fun.
